Minister Khatiwada lays foundation stone for Rs 170 million biogas plant

Knakai, Jhapa  (RSS): The government’s vision to bring cooking gas to the reach of every Nepali people has begun from Jhapa. Part of the campaign, Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada laid the foundation stone for the setup of a biogas plant amid a programme here on Saturday.

Saying the government has had a policy to provide every house with biogas in next 25 years through the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre, the minister stressed the need for people’s representatives of every local level to support the effort. On the occasion, federal lawmaker of Jhapa constituency 4 LP Sawa Limbu said there is no option to alternative energy to make the environment clean and safe.

Located at Sukedangi of Kankai municipality-2 in Jhapa district, the 4,000 cubic meters biogas plant costing approximately Rs 170 million is aimed to supply gas to around 900 houses in the first phase. Kankai, Birtamod and Arjundhara municipalities jointly have taken initiatives in setting up the plant.
