Role of journalism is vital in tourism promotion: Former PM Khanal

Ilam- Former Prime Minister Jhal Nath Khanal has said journalism played an important role in tourism promotion. Stating journalism played key role in informing the state on development affairs, he stressed that journalism should be independent and fair. The former PM and Nepal Communist Party senior leader, Khanal, said this while addressing the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) State-1 level FNJ council members’ assembly at Shreeantu of Suryodaya municipality in Ilam today.

He also reminded that journalism played a significant role in nation building and it was the need of the hour to strengthen democracy, prevent the undermining of nationality, and preserve and promote good governance, sustainable development and cultural heritages.

Leader Khanal added that the country could not move forward without good governance and activities like shutdown, general strikes and violence should be stopped for good now. Reiterating that the country has entered a new era, he suggested conducting our foreign policy in a balanced way with neighbours and other countries.FNJ central president Govinda Achrya, general secretary Ramesh Bista and State-1 Assembly members were also present on the occasion. The assembly will conclude tomorrow.
