Meteorologists’ team carrying out field study of ‘Tornado’

Kathmandu-A team of meteorologists has been carrying out field study following the preliminary findings that the devastation in Bara and Parsa districts was caused by ‘tornado’.
Twenty-nine people were killed and scores others were injured in the calamity that hit some parts of the districts on March 31.

The six-member team that comprises meteorologists from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and The Small Earth Nepal is expected to complete the study tomorrow (Monday), said meteorologist Dr Archana Shrestha, who works for the Department, which is leading the study.
The report will be made public within a week, it is learnt.

Official information will come out about the disaster following the study, said Director General of the Department Saraju Baidya. The preliminary findings indicated a tornado following the analysis of satellite pictures of the affected area.
