Biratnagar- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Upendra Yadav viewed that the provision of granting naturalised citizenship cards should be scrapped. Rather the process for Nepali people to acquire citizenship certificates should be made easier, he said talking to media-persons at Biratnagar airport.
He also called for not making citizenship a political agenda admitting that there exist gender-based discriminations in the distribution of citizenship certificates. Pointing out errors in the formation of the judicial council, which may give its access to political party cadres, he stressed the need for changing structures of the council by amending the new constitution.
On barring Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, he clarified that the government resorted to the move to fulfill its responsibility to protect its citizens. Dismissing reports about his party’s unification with the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, Yadav, also chairperson of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, said there were no discussions within the party on the matter.
