President calls for timely justice delivery

Kathmandu-President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday said court’s verdicts would be limited only on paper if general citizens are denied access to justice. Judiciary sector should deliver justice on time to increase people’s faith over it, she said inaugurating the Third Justices’ National Conference organised here by the Supreme Court.

“Delaying justice means non-implementation of court’s verdicts, which all should understand. The spirit of the ancient proverb, ‘go to Gorkha if denied justice’ is equally relevant even at this period of time.” She also pointed out integrity, hard-work and honesty in those delivering justice for independence of judiciary. Support from all concerned authority should be there to succeed the campaign launched by judicial leadership in a bid to purify judiciary, she stressed.

On the occasion, Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JBR said the judiciary purification campaign aims to increase people’s faith over judiciary. Similarly, Chairperson of the National Assembly Ganesh Timilsina stressed the need for making judiciary responsible towards the people.

Attorney general Agni Kharel said the conference would help build people’s trust in judiciary, while president of the Nepal Bar Association Sher Bahadur KC underscored the need for removing irregularities in judiciary to retain its independence and impartiality.The three days conference is being attended by 393 judges from across the country. The conference will issue a declaration carving out the future roadmap for judiciary and judges.
