Democracy, ‘life and death issue’ for NC: Deuba

Birgunj, Feb 20 : Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said democracy is an issue of life and death for the Congress and none could overcome it.
While inaugurating the four-star hotel Diyalo Lord today at Adarshanagar of Birgunj, leader Deuba said the party was committed toward the safeguard of democracy at any cost.

The 2007 BS revolution at home for the achievement of democracy had started from Birgunj, he said, promising the party support for the development of city carrying such a ‘glorious history’.
Accusing the incumbent government of not wishing to accelerate the industrial development, he claimed that the it (government) failed to build an encouraging atmosphere for private sector for investment.

Birgunj could be a hub for external investment due to its territorial position as it shares border with Indian market. Also speaking on the occasion, Province 2 Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut was of the view that the province could set examples in terms of industrial development if the federal government would create a conducive environment towards that end.

Former Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat claimed that protection and promotion of democracy, people’s rights and citizen’s rights in every sector was the current agenda of the party.
Lawmakers Pradeep Giri and Binod Kumar Chaudhary and industrialist and former lawmaker Anil Rungta called on the government to ensure the investment-friendly atmosphere in the province.
The 10-storey hotel was established at the cost of Rs one billion. (RSS)
