RSS turns 58

Kathmandu, Feb 19 : Country’s only official state-owned news agency — Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) — is marking its 58th years of establishment on Tuesday by organising a variety of programmes.RSS was established on 18th February 1962 with the merger of two news agencies, Nepal Sambad Samiti and Sagarmatha Sambad Samiti. RSS founder is Rajaram Poudyal while Govinda Biyogi and Manindra Raj Shrestha are two other founding members.

Currently, RSS has its offices in all seven provinces in line with the federal set up and are collecting and disseminating official, credible and factual news.Except in Province No. 3 and Karnali Province, the RSS has its own office and other district offices.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota have offered separate messages stating that the RSS’ role is crucial to expedite development and prosperity in the federal democratic republic. (RSS)
