Human settlement at risk of limestone quarry

Hetauda, Feb 9 : After the central government gave permission for the excavation of limestone at three places of same Bhimphedi rural municipality, the locals here have worried over the risk quarry would pose to their settlement. The people’s representatives here have expressed concern over the quarries that would risk the Bhimphedi settlement.

Hetauda Cement Factory, Shalimar Cement Factory, Riddhisiddhi Cement Factory and Shivam Cement Factory and others were given license for the excavation of the limestone required for the cement production. Chief Minister of Province 3 has been drawn the attention to scrap the license.

Vice Chairperson of Bhimphedi rural municipality, Parbati Rana, said the limestone excavation must be ended, and the licenses scrapped. However, the Shalimar Cement Factory is operating the quarry at ward no 2, while Riddhisiddhi Cement Factory is running quarry at ward no 3, and Shivam Cement at ward no 5. A local Jivan Lama added that the current limestone excavation is posing high risks to the settlements from ward no 1 to ward 6 of the Bhimphedi rural municipality. (RSS)
